Surprise Dance Outfit Ideas

The surprise dance tradition in a quinceañera can be one of the most exciting portions of the party. It’s a chance to just have fun with your court and perform for your friends and family. The surprise dance usually involves a lot more movement than the waltz dance so you want to make sure that what you’re wearing allows you to move freely above all else; not to mention, it’s a great opportunity to get a break from that heavy dress!

Things to keep in mind:

  • Mobility: You should be able to easily move in the outfit

  • Aesthetics: Consider color coordinating with your court. Whether you all wear the same colors, the same two colors, or if the quinceañera is the only one wearing a different color to stand out.

  • Dance Genre: The outfit should definitely match the type of dance you’re doing. For example, if you’re dancing to zapateado, you wouldn‘t want to wear baggy sweats and a t-shirt.

1. Hip Hop/ Reggaetón

Hip hop dance involves a lot of big, explosive movement so looser clothing such as sweatpants usually goes really well with the choreography. This option is great for an affordable, comfortable outfit.

2. Latin Dance (Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, etc)

Latin ballroom dancing such as salsa has a lot of intricate hip and feet movements so a flowy, flashy skirt would look really cute on the ladies. As for the gentlemen, something a bit more formal such as slacks would work well. Click here to shop a variety of these skirts!

3. Zapateado/ Ranchera Themed Dance

Who doesn’t love a good zapateado? Since this type of dance mainly invloves footwork, the clothing isn’t too important but you still want to make sure it goes with the genre of dance and music. Apart from the botas, here are some outfit ideas for the girls and boys. You could have a bit more fun with the accessories and add some cute belts or hats for sure!

4. Basic Casual

If your dance doesn’t really follow a certain theme or genre, you can never go wrong with the basics. Black pants and flannels are really easy to match with your court and most people already have these items, so no need to spend that extra money. You can also always dress it up a bit by adding some accesories.

5. Dressy Casual

Another great option if your dance doesn’t have much of a theme but want to make it a bit more stylish. Jeans and a formal-casual shirt would look great!
